Stuff, things and linky fun
Doncaster's new mayor gets a solid kicking in one of his first interviews. The Mayor of Doncster got elected on an idiotic agenda, turns out, he's an idiot. Who'd have thunk it?

Tactical Corsetry - Combining boobs and body armour. I expect this one to go down well in the Bigg Market.

The British Legion's incredibly polite cease and desist open letter to Nick Griffin worth a read, worth passing around.

Scientists have discovered the sonic equivalent of a black hole - By complete conicindence, this article is full of excellent name ideas for heavy metal bands.

In other news, I saw Krod Mandoon and the Flaming sword of Fire last night. It is very, very stupid, the humour base and the plot is deeply silly, all wrapped up in a cod-fantasy wrapper. In short, fun

Corset without laces ? The laces are half the fun surely ?

You'd think, but every time I "joke" about running a knife up the lacing as a quick-release method I get threatened with death. Goth girls in corsets are basically like old-skool Dairy Lea: you really want what's inside, but damned if you can get at it; use of Fastex can only help preserve both passion and bodily integrity.

The goth girls are quite right too - have you seen how much good corsets cost.

Slow down laddy...or practice untying things quickly.

"Goth girls in corsets are basically like old-skool Dairy Lea."

Is probably the finest simile I have ever heard. Just so you know.

Ahh, feeling empowered by looking sexy... that old chestnut, how I love it.

I realy do love the British Legion's letter though. Awesome.

Nothing like feeling empowered.

Well, apart from actually *being* empowered, but then the issue of what you wear wouldn't even be in the equation. Heigh-ho.

Ay me - I made the mistake of going to the web site. It gave me The Rage. Which I'm sure isn't what Ed intended!

Yeah, me too. I raised a particularly crooked eyebrow at the "tactical" lipstick pouch. *rolls eyes*

Woo, yeah! Be a strong, independent woman by focussing all of your courage, skill, practicality and intelligence on trying to look sexy for men! After all, what greater goal could there be in life?

The RBL made a huge mistake in their original private request to Nick Griffin not to wear a poppy. They appealed to his sense of honour. This was as ineffective as praying, and for the same reason - the nonexistence of the thing being appealed to.

Prayer has the effect that it soothes the people who are minded to do so. Appealing to Griffins sense of the common good is wasted effort on both counts.

It had its moments, most of them involving Matt Lucas or cheap visual gags. However, I found it a bit crap for two reasons

1. I've seen or read most of it before
2. I've larped funnier than this.

Might not bother again.

I'm sure you were. Did you enjoy the representation of 'pagan women?' I know I did. I wonder, if its trying to poke fun at the misogyny of the genre and by association its target market, why was it necessary to have said bint perform a fairly lengthy erotic dance without anything funny or clever happening? Not that I'm complaining too much...

Yeah, it was a bit blatant wasn't it? I would prefer her to be slightly more empowered. Like Maid Marion 9and her Merry Men.

Oh it was a bit crap. I don't think anybody could say it wasn't a bit crap. HOWEVER with my childhood of Krull, Beastmaster and terribly 1980's fantasy films it hits my nostalgia button rather hard.

I may give it the benefit of the doubt.

I was trying to think why I liked it in spite of its faults, and I think you've hit the nail on the head. I doubt it would be as appealing to anyone who doesn't think Hawk the Slayer is a piece of cinematic genius.

Surely the best way to get Nick Griffin to stop wearing the poppy is for the Royal British Legion to send him a letter saying "Dear Mr Griffin, here at the RBL we love blacks, jews and queers, and we thank you for wearing the poppy in support of all the blacks, jews and queers who died in service to their nation in the wars of the last century".
